SAF and CORSIA – Duelling Pathways for a Sustainable Aviation Industry | Analyst Note | June 2024
Friday, 21st June 2024

The aviation industry is at a pivotal point, seeking to balance growth with environmental sustainability. Two key strategies are emerging to address this challenge; carbon offsetting through the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) CORSIA program and the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs). CORSIA, as a near-term solution, allows airlines to offset their emissions, providing a crucial tool for immediate carbon emissions management. SAFs, on the other hand, offer a promising long-term solution due to their potential to significantly reduce  emissions at source. This analyst note delves into the specifics of both strategies, analyzing the challenges, opportunities, and potential future trajectories to provide a comprehensive overview of the aviation industry’s path towards sustainability.
